The Schatten VR is a full range pickup embedded into a high quality viola replacement bridge. The VR's response is sweet from the bottom end right up to the top. Schatten Design uses a high quality Despiau maple bridge of medium density that is ready for fitting and curvature. Since the piezo sensing unit is built right into the bridge, it can not fall out or get out of position or adjustment. There is no acoustic degradation or loss of normal acoustic tone or volume.
This model includes the VR replacement bridge with embedded pickup, non-terminated, for use with an existing jack or onboard preamp. Each pickup is hand built and tested in the Schatten workshop to ensure good sound. As well, each pickup is warranted for a period of two years from date of purchase.
The VR pickup has excellent volume, great bottom and mids, and overall a sweet, even response. Schatten has designed their VR series pickups to operate properly and sound terrific without the use of a preamp if you are running into any 'normal' amp (guitar amp, bass amp, etc.) Players who must plug directly into a PA system or mixing board will most likely need to preamp their signal in order to match up with what most mixers require in terms of impedance and signal strength.
